The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment published a case study highlighting the success of its National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR) Scheme. The document details the rehabilitation of a 40-year-old individual, Ramesh Kumar (name changed), from Pedhapalli district in Telangana, who faced significant personal, family, and professional challenges due to alcohol addiction. His journey to recovery was facilitated through the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA) in Pedhapalli, operated by the Prakriti Environment Society.

The comprehensive de-addiction treatment and rehabilitation services provided included medical supervision, individual and family counselling, group therapy, motivational enhancement, relapse prevention therapy, and regular follow-up sessions. The programme also offered vocational guidance and support for social reintegration. The intervention is cited as a positive transformation, resulting in the individual becoming sober and regularly employed with a stable monthly income of approximately Rs 12,000–15,000. The improvement has contributed to better health, emotional well-being, financial stability, and family circumstances, underscoring the importance of timely intervention, professional rehabilitation, and sustained family support.
