The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a case study showcasing the successful rehabilitation journey of Ranjit Das, a 31-year-old Scheduled Caste resident from Nagaon district, Assam. The individual faced socio-economic challenges including financial difficulties, unemployment, and limited access to educational and vocational opportunities, compounded by social stigma and inadequate awareness of support systems.
On March 3, 2026, Ranjit received comprehensive support from the District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) in Nagaon, Assam. The center provided counseling services, medical referrals, psychological assistance, awareness sessions, and life-skills education. The program included family counseling and regular follow-up services to strengthen the support system essential for sustaining recovery, along with emotional support and motivational counseling.
Through continued support and determination, Ranjit successfully recovered and achieved financial independence through self-employment, now earning at least ₹10,000 per month. This income improvement has contributed to greater financial stability for his family and enabled progress toward self-reliance. The case study highlights the role of District De-Addiction Centres in facilitating recovery, strengthening self-confidence, and promoting social and economic reintegration of individuals affected by substance use.
The ministry emphasizes that access to timely counseling, rehabilitation, and psychological support can help individuals overcome substance-related challenges and rebuild their lives. This example demonstrates how institutional support combined with personal determination and family encouragement can lead to dignified living and financial security.
