The Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is organizing a National Mass Pledge Against Drug Abuse to commemorate the 6th anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), with a target of mobilizing over 10 crore citizens through both physical and online participation by the end of September 2026.
The initiative was discussed during the 3rd high-level coordination meeting chaired by Joint Secretary (Drug Prevention) Dr. Sandeep Rewaji Rathod, which emphasized a 'Whole of the Govt' and 'Whole of The Society' approach to sensitize citizens about substance abuse dangers. The meeting involved multiple ministries including Railways, Defence, Youth Affairs & Sports, Education, Health, and others to organize pledge ceremonies across all affiliated offices, educational institutions, autonomous bodies, PSUs, and field formations.
Technical infrastructure includes the NMBA e-Pledge portal at https://nashamukt.dosje.gov.in/epledge and a mobile application available on Google Play Store for locating nearest de-addiction centers. The campaign promotes the national helpline 14446 for drug de-addiction and encourages volunteer registration as Nasha Mukti Mitr through the official website.
Since its launch on 15th August 2020, the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan has reached 34.42 crore citizens, including 13.64 crore youth and 10.58 crore women, with 1.65 lakh Nasha Mukti Mitras registered. The program operates under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), providing financial assistance to State Governments, Union Territories, NGOs, and government hospitals for preventive education, awareness generation, counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation based on evidence from the National Survey on Substance Use conducted by AIIMS.
