The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is promoting convergence between the PM KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana schemes with suitable Central and State programmes and funding sources to facilitate wider adoption and accelerate solar energy implementation across India. This convergence approach aims to enhance rural energy self-sufficiency through coordinated implementation across multiple government initiatives.
For the PM KUSUM scheme, the guidelines specifically allow convergence with several other central schemes including the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF) scheme for access to easy financing, the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) for solarization of segregated agriculture feeders, promotion of micro irrigation techniques and Per Drop More Crop scheme, replacement of agriculture pumps with energy efficient pumps, and the Gram Urja Swaraj Campaign to enhance self-sufficiency at the village level.
For the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, convergence is being implemented with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for the Solar Didi Programme, which trains women Self-Help Group (SHG) members under DAY-NULM. Additionally, convergence of District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds is encouraged with PM Surya Ghar for eligible beneficiaries, particularly targeting Below Poverty Line (BPL) households, PMAY beneficiaries, and other vulnerable sections of society.
The Ministry has already issued communications outlining possible areas of convergence to all states for integrating PM KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar Schemes with programs from the Ministry of Cooperation, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Ministry of Rural Development.
