The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) celebrated International Day of Yoga 2026 at the National Zoological Park in New Delhi on June 21, 2026. The event, themed 'Yoga for Healthy Ageing', was attended by approximately 200 ministry officials led by Secretary Shri Tanmay Kumar who participated in a mass yoga session. Senior officials planted indigenous and medicinal plant species under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, dedicating them in the names of their mothers.
The celebrations included multiple activities promoting holistic health and environmental consciousness. A poster-making competition on the theme 'समग्र स्वास्थ्य और सद्भाव' (Holistic Health and Harmony) was organized, with entries evaluated by Dr. Indu, Assistant Professor from Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, who also delivered a lecture on yoga's health benefits. Three best entries received prizes, while all participants were distributed saplings under the tree planting initiative.
Additional activities included a doodle activity and interactive quiz competition to raise awareness about yoga benefits and encourage public participation. Visitors took the Mission LiFE Pledge, committing to environmentally responsible and sustainable lifestyles. The Sunday Bird Walk was conducted from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM, where registered participants spotted 39 bird species during the expert-guided walk followed by an expert talk. The event aimed to promote wellness, environmental awareness, and sustainable lifestyles across all age groups.
