The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has established comprehensive digital mechanisms to ensure timely collection and publication of official statistics. Primary data collection for National Sample Surveys is now conducted on digital platforms including Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) and the e-SIGMA system, which incorporate in-built validation checks, real-time data monitoring, AI-enabled chatbots, and multilingual interfaces. These digital systems ensure consistency during data collection and facilitate real-time submission and validation of survey data, supplemented by physical scrutiny and inspection by higher-level officers and regular training for field staff.
These initiatives have substantially improved data quality and reduced the time lag in releasing survey data from 8-9 months to 45-90 days. Specifically, annual survey results are now released within 90-120 days, quarterly results within 45-60 days, and monthly results within 15-30 days of survey completion.
For the Consumer Price Index (CPI), price data is collected through the CAPI system under the new CPI series with Base Year 2024, incorporating real-time validation checks, geo-tagging, and time-stamping of observations to strengthen data quality, monitoring, transparency, and timeliness. National Accounts Statistics estimates are compiled and revised according to the System of National Accounts 2008 (SNA 2008) using the latest available data from various administrative databases and sample surveys.
The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) compilation follows a structured process where monthly data is collected from sources by the 21st of every month, with regular follow-up to improve timeliness and response rates. Data undergoes validation and consistency checks to ensure quality and reliability.
MoSPI enhances accountability through the Advance Release Calendar (ARC) published on the Ministry's website for timely dissemination of statistical publications. To promote transparency, anonymized unit-level survey data is made available through MoSPI's revamped Microdata Portal, enabling researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to access and utilize official statistics for evidence-based research and policy making.
Additional stakeholder engagement is strengthened through data user conferences, consultations, workshops, and feedback mechanisms. Digital platforms including the revamped MoSPI website, GoIStats mobile application, e-Sankhyiki Portal, Microdata Portal, and APIs for data exchange have further enhanced data accessibility and dissemination.
