The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released a trial Index of Services Production (ISP) on July 14, 2026, which is compiled for 19 service sub-sectors using monthly data from outward GST supplies and other administrative data provided by source agencies. The trial ISP is specifically designed to cover the formal sector of the economy and is being released with the intent to receive feedback on the methodological framework from stakeholders, academicians, and researchers. The techniques employed to test the stability of these trial indices include the use of appropriate deflators and validation of trends against other secondary data sources.
For comprehensive economic measurement, the Ministry utilizes multiple surveys: the Annual Survey of Incorporated Service Sector Enterprises (ASISSE) covers the incorporated services sector, while for measuring the unincorporated sector of the economy, the Ministry undertakes the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) and publishes quarterly and annual results from this survey. This information was formally given by Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics & Programme Implementation and Planning, and Minister of State for Culture, in the Rajya Sabha on July 27, 2026.
