MoSPI Infrastructure Project Monitoring Report August 2026
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released its monthly flash report tracking central sector infrastructure projects worth ₹150 crore and above through the PAIMANA portal. As of August 2026, the platform monitors 1,731 ongoing infrastructure projects with a total revised cost of ₹33.60 lakh crore across 17 Central Ministries and Departments. The cumulative expenditure incurred on these projects stands at ₹16.33 lakh crore, representing 48.59% of the total revised project cost, indicating steady progress in implementation.
Project Composition and Progress Status
The 1,731 projects include 715 Mega projects (costing ₹1,000 crore and above) with an original cost of ₹25.89 lakh crore, and 1,016 Major projects (costing between ₹150 crore and ₹1,000 crore) amounting to ₹4.83 lakh crore. The data reveals significant advancement in project execution, with 647 projects (approximately 38%) achieving over 80% physical progress and 312 projects (approximately 18%) crossing 80% financial completion. Physical and financial progress generally move in tandem, with projects clustered at both initial (0-20%) and advanced (81-100%) stages, indicating a healthy pipeline of newly started projects alongside many nearing completion.
Ministry-wise Project Distribution
Ministry of Road Transport & Highways accounts for the largest share with 982 projects (57% of total) worth ₹9.52 lakh crore (28% of total cost), followed by Ministry of Railways with 147 projects (8%) worth ₹3.14 lakh crore (9%), and Ministry of Coal with 122 projects (7%) worth ₹2.22 lakh crore (7%). Other significant ministries include Petroleum & Natural Gas (117 projects, ₹4.42 lakh crore), Power (102 projects, ₹6.18 lakh crore), Housing & Urban Affairs (49 projects, ₹3.41 lakh crore), and Water Resources, River Development & GR (38 projects, ₹2.00 lakh crore). The remaining 174 projects (10%) worth ₹2.71 lakh crore (8%) are distributed across various other ministries including Higher Education, Civil Aviation, Steel, Telecommunications, and Health & Family Welfare.
Sector-wise Analysis
Transport & Logistics dominates the infrastructure landscape with 1,191 projects (69% of total projects) worth ₹16.05 lakh crore (48% of total cost), underscoring the priority given to connectivity-driven infrastructure growth. The Energy sector follows with 223 projects worth ₹10.95 lakh crore (32% of total cost), reflecting sustained emphasis on oil & gas infrastructure, electricity generation, and distribution networks. Water & Sanitation accounts for ₹2.04 lakh crore (6%) across 53 projects, while Communication infrastructure represents ₹1.34 lakh crore (4%) across 31 projects. Social & Commercial infrastructure comprises 81 projects worth ₹0.97 lakh crore (3%), and projects classified under 'Others' amount to ₹2.26 lakh crore (7%) across 152 projects covering sectors like coal, steel, metals, and mining.
Recent Project Completions and Additions
During August 2026, notable commissioned projects include the "6L Greenfield Kandili - Aluru Section of NH-130-CD Road" (₹1,912.84 crore) and landslide mitigation measures on NH-07 in Uttarakhand (₹216.68 crore) from Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, plus the Haldia Panagarh Pipeline Project (₹1,107 crore) from Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. The month also saw 37 new projects added to PAIMANA monitoring, including 15 from Petroleum & Natural Gas, 10 from Road Transport & Highways, 4 from Power, 4 from Higher Education, 2 from Steel, 1 from Coal, and 1 from Civil Aviation. Significant new additions include WR–ER Inter Regional Network Expansion Scheme (₹6,444 crore) from Power Ministry, Additional Development of Ratna-I and NLM-14 Project (₹6,274 crore) and Well Head Platforms for MB-OSN-2005/1, SD4 and BS-17 Field (₹5,519 crore) from Petroleum & Natural Gas, and construction of Frontier Highway NH-913 section (₹1,273.44 crore) from Road Transport & Highways.
