The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment published a case study highlighting the successful rehabilitation of Mrinas (name changed), a 26-year-old man from Jorhat district, Assam, under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR). Mrinas, who belongs to the OBC community, began using substances at age 11 following the loss of his father and disruption of his education due to difficult family circumstances and limited emotional support.
On August 31, 2025, he received support through COSEHDA's District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) in Jorhat, which included a highly subsidized treatment plan, counseling services, and rehabilitation support. The assistance focused on addressing his substance dependency and helping him develop skills to rebuild his life. The program emphasized community support and preventive interventions to strengthen recovery and support social reintegration.
The intervention has enabled Mrinas to become a full-time employee, achieving greater financial independence and stability. While his aspiration to join the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBN) remains a future goal, his current employment demonstrates successful rehabilitation. The case illustrates how accessible treatment, counseling, empathy, and sustained community support can help individuals facing substance dependency regain direction and work toward purposeful lives.
