The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) provided detailed information about skill development initiatives for healthcare professionals under the Skill India Mission. Through various schemes including Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), and Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS), the ministry has trained a total of 208,653 candidates across India in paramedical and allied healthcare sectors from 2023-24 up to 30th June 2026.
PMKVY has trained 120,588 candidates nationwide with 2,361 in Kerala, focusing on healthcare job roles including Emergency Medical Technician-Basic, General Duty Assistant, Geriatric Caregiver, Healthcare Hygiene and Housekeeping Aide, Assistant Yoga Instructor, Panchakarma Assistant, and Genetic Counselor. The ministry launched a specific Training Programme for Multi-Skilled Caregivers under PMKVY in line with Union Budget 2026-27 announcements to skill 1.5 lakh caregiving professionals, with 1.3 lakh to be trained through the MSDE ecosystem.
NAPS has provided apprenticeship opportunities to 31,491 candidates across India (1,063 in Kerala) in healthcare, paramedical, and allied healthcare sectors based on establishment requirements. JSS has trained 7,712 candidates (260 in Kerala) through healthcare-related programs including Basic Health and Wellness Skills, Fundamentals of POSHAK, Foundation Course in Healthcare, Front Line Health Worker, General Duty Assistant, Helpers for Hospitals and Nursing Homes, Geriatric Assistant, and Optician.
CTS through Industrial Training Institutes has trained 48,862 candidates (160 in Kerala) during the 2023 to 2025 session in healthcare trades such as Dental Laboratory Equipment Technician, Geriatric Care, Health Sanitary Inspector, Physiotherapy Technician, and Radiology Technician.
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has developed one-year Post Basic Diploma programmes in various clinical specialties in Residency Mode (Earn While You Learn) by the Indian Nursing Council to strengthen clinical competencies of registered nurses and address the growing demand for specialized nursing care.
MSDE has established seven Skill India International Centres (SIICs) on a pilot basis to facilitate international employment opportunities. Through National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the ministry is facilitating overseas employment for healthcare professionals through country-specific workforce mobility initiatives including candidate mobilization, language preparation, assessment, and deployment support. Specific programs include the Japan Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP) for Caregivers and the Israel Government-to-Government (G2G) Caregiver Programme.
