The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) provided a comprehensive update on skill development initiatives for women, particularly in emerging technologies, through various schemes under the Skill India Mission.
Training Programs and Schemes
MSDE delivers skill, re-skill, and up-skill training through Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The training focuses on enabling women to acquire industry-relevant skills in emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductor design, and Renewable Energy.
Women Trained in Emerging Technologies
During the last five years (2021-22 to 2025-26), MSDE trained 19,697 women in Artificial Intelligence under PMKVY, 1,426 under NAPS, and 603 under CTS/ITIs. In Semiconductor technologies, 4,537 women were trained under PMKVY and 12 under CTS/ITIs. Renewable Energy training reached 57,681 women under PMKVY, 17,557 under NAPS, and 1,260 under CTS/ITIs, totaling 80,041 women trained across these emerging technology sectors.
Overall Training Statistics
Since inception, MSDE has trained 74,84,412 women under PMKVY, 30,30,615 under JSS (since 2018-19), 11,75,303 under NAPS (since 2018-19), and 14,63,063 under CTS/ITI (2018-19 to 30.06.2026). Year-wise data shows significant fluctuations: PMKVY trained 3,05,751 women in 2021-22, 1,10,997 in 2022-23, 2,82,102 in 2023-24, 11,39,225 in 2024-25, and 72,302 in 2025-26.
State-wise Distribution
Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of women trained under PMKVY (11,10,215), followed by Madhya Pradesh (5,71,984) and Rajasthan (5,96,415). Andhra Pradesh, specifically mentioned in the query, trained 2,36,625 women under PMKVY, 73,016 under JSS, 24,989 under NAPS, and 17,316 under CTS/ITI. Financial Allocations

Uttar Pradesh received the highest allocation under PMKVY (Rs 1,803.08 crore), followed by Maharashtra (Rs 997.46 crore). Special Provisions for Women
MSDE has implemented special provisions to encourage women's participation, including meeting expenditure on conveyance, boarding & lodging, and enhanced post-placement support. PMKVY 4.0 prioritizes projects emphasizing women as primary beneficiaries, especially from vulnerable sections. Under JSS Scheme, women constitute more than 80% of beneficiaries. There are 19 National Skill Training Institutes (NSTI) and over 300 ITIs exclusively for women.
Placement Tracking and Scheme Focus
Placements were tracked only under the Short-Term Training component of PMKVY 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 implemented from 2015-16 to 2021-22, with 55,040 women candidates placed in Andhra Pradesh. PMKVY 4.0 has shifted focus to empowering trained candidates to choose varied career paths with orientation through industry-relevant skill courses that include On-the-Job Training (OJT). While gender-budgeting is implemented under MSDE schemes, there is no specific gender budgeting exclusively for emerging technologies.
