The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to institutionalize a data sharing mechanism for the development and strengthening of the Statistical Business Register (SBR). The MoU was exchanged on September 29, 2026, by Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner of MSME Ministry, and Dr. Dalip Singh, Additional Director General of MoSPI, in the presence of senior officers from both ministries.
The agreement establishes a structured framework for sharing unit-wise data from the Udyam Registration ecosystem through APIs, which will provide data for the preparation of the National Statistical Business Register. This two-way API exchange aims to improve the coverage, consistency, and reliability of business information used for statistical purposes. The SBR serves as a central and regularly updated database of registered statistical units engaged in economic activities within India, capturing businesses, enterprises, establishments and their key characteristics and relationships.
The Statistical Business Register functions as foundational infrastructure for the economic statistics system by identifying target populations for economic surveys, supporting survey sample selection, enabling production of business demography statistics, providing a common framework for business demography-related information, and facilitating integration across different data sources.
