The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, through MY Bharat and the National Service Scheme (NSS), launched the second month of the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat 100 Week Sankalp Abhiyan with the nationwide observance of "Yoga evam Aatm-Suraksha Diwas" (Yoga and Self-Defence Day) on October 16, 2026. The campaign, inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister, operates under the theme "Fit Youth, Addiction-Free Youth (Shakti evam Seva)" focusing on physical fitness, mental resilience, discipline and self-confidence as key elements of a healthy, addiction-free society.
The Week 5 intervention witnessed participation of 91,179 people across 183 educational institutions, NSS units and adopted villages nationwide. The activities involved local leaders, police officials, sports authorities, medical experts and certified yoga instructors promoting healthy lifestyles, personal safety and substance abuse awareness. Specifically, 332 yoga sessions engaged 34,290 participants (including 19,882 women), while 311 self-defence demonstrations reached 31,507 participants (including 18,364 women). An additional 180 community awareness activities engaged 25,391 participants.
The yoga sessions incorporated the Common Yoga Protocol and relaxation techniques to highlight physical well-being and stress management importance. Self-defence demonstrations focused on practical safety techniques, situational awareness and personal security, particularly for young women. Women accounted for 57.1% of total participation, with notable female engagement recorded by Regional Directorates in Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna and Trivandrum. Partner organizations included Anuvrat Vishva Bharati Society, BAPS, Bharat Scouts & Guides and MY Bharat Kendras.
The campaign generated significant digital outreach with 4,197 organic social media posts shared under the #NashaMuktYuva hashtag. By integrating yoga, self-defence and community awareness, the initiative reinforces physical fitness, mental well-being and personal resilience in preventing substance abuse, working toward the vision of a Viksit Bharat and addiction-free India under the NSS motto "Not Me, But You."
