Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, along with a delegation including MLAs Mhathung Yanthan, Y. MhonbemoHumtsoe, and Achumbemo Kikon, met Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh to discuss developmental issues in Northeast India, particularly focusing on connectivity and infrastructure. The meeting highlighted the significant transformation of the North-East region over the past twelve years under the Modi government's development-oriented approach, with particular emphasis on improved connectivity bringing the region closer to national growth mainstream.

The discussion revealed substantial infrastructure progress, including aviation connectivity where operational airports in the region increased from 9 in 2014 to 17 in 2026, representing a 78% growth. The UDAN regional connectivity scheme has operationalized approximately 90 regional routes connecting smaller towns with regional hubs and major cities. New aviation facilities at Pakyong and Hollongi, along with upgraded facilities at Tezu and Rupsi, have contributed to this expanded regional aviation network.

Transport infrastructure has seen remarkable expansion with National Waterways increasing from 1 in 2014 to 20 in 2024. Digital infrastructure has also expanded substantially, with thousands of Gram Panchayats receiving high-speed internet connectivity. The delegation specifically raised infrastructure requirements for Wokha district, including the proposal to declare the Wokha–Merapani road up to Golaghat as a National Highway, upgradation of the Wokha–Bokajan road, and development of District Office Complex, Multipurpose Market Complex, Stadium, and approach roads at Wokha district headquarters.

A significant issue discussed was human-elephant conflict in Wokha district, with representatives highlighting crop destruction, property damage, and safety concerns for local communities. They sought a comprehensive policy response and special package for affected areas. The Minister emphasized the need for an approach that protects both local livelihoods and the region's rich wildlife through coordinated agency efforts.

The development momentum is positioning North-East as a region of strategic, economic and technological importance, leveraging its young population, natural resources, biodiversity and strategic location as a gateway to India's Act East policy. The government's approach focuses on ensuring improved connectivity translates into better opportunities, stronger livelihoods, and greater regional participation in India's growth story.
