The Ministry of Minority Affairs announced leadership changes at the National Commission for Minorities with Shri Harjit Singh Grewal assuming charge as Chairman on July 21, 2026. His appointment marks a renewed commitment towards promoting welfare, inclusion, empowerment and socio-economic development of minority communities, bringing extensive experience in public life and organizational leadership with focus on social harmony and inclusive development.
Smt. S. Munawari Begum assumed office as Vice Chairperson of the Commission on July 20, 2026, bringing extensive experience in public service. She is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the Commission's mandate of protecting minority rights, promoting equal opportunities, and strengthening inclusive governance.
The Commission also welcomed new members representing diverse minority communities. Shri Glenn Souza Ticlo assumed office as Member representing the Christian community, bringing experience as a two-term Member of the Goa Legislative Assembly from the Aldona constituency between 2012 and 2022. Shri Berjis Desai joined on March 10, 2026 as Member representing the Parsi community, bringing credentials as a respected public figure, renowned writer, and esteemed High Court advocate.
With the induction of the new Chairman, Vice Chairperson, and Members representing diverse minority communities, the National Commission for Minorities is positioned to strengthen its efforts towards ensuring justice, equality, empowerment, and inclusive development for minority communities in India.
