The National Cadet Corps (NCC) organized Cyclothon 2026 on August 02, 2026 in New Delhi to commemorate 79 years of India's Independence. The event was flagged off by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, with Minister of State for Defence Shri Sanjay Seth, boxer M C Mary Kom, and tennis player Leander Paes in attendance. Director General of NCC Lieutenant General Virendra Vats led 79 NCC cadets in a symbolic 79-kilometer ride starting and concluding at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, passing through prominent landmarks of the National Capital.
Organized under the theme "Clean India, Green India, Fit India," the cyclothon reaffirmed NCC's commitment to national missions including TB Mukt Bharat, Swachh Bharat, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, and Har Ghar Tiranga. The initiative aimed to inspire youth to embrace cycling as an eco-friendly transport mode while promoting environmental conservation, reducing carbon emissions, and adopting healthy lifestyles. Beyond being a sporting event, it served as a platform to create awareness about physical fitness, environmental stewardship, road safety, and responsible citizenship, encouraging youth to become ambassadors of positive social change through discipline, teamwork, resilience, and community service.
