The National Council for Transgender Persons (NCTP) meeting was held on 3 June 2026 in New Delhi
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment
Co-chaired by Shri Ramdas Athawale and Shri BL Verma, Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment
NCTP serves as the apex advisory body for transgender rights and welfare policies
23 Garima Grehs currently operational across the country
26 Transgender Protection Cells operational across the country
30 Transgender Welfare Boards operational across the country
Over 49,000 transgender persons have benefited from skill development and capacity building programs through National Institute of Social Defence (NISD)
821 transgender persons have secured gainful employment through Garima Grehs
Project to train 1,800 transgender persons under Entrepreneurship Development Programme currently under implementation
Discussions covered welfare, employment, awareness enhancement, economic empowerment, financial inclusion, access to essential services, and grievance redressal mechanisms
Council members provided suggestions on healthcare, education, housing, livelihood opportunities, social security, and protection from discrimination
Shri Ramdas Athawale suggested a dedicated survey for comprehensive data to support evidence-based policy formulation
