A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Miyagi prefecture in northern Japan on 15 May 2026.
The seismic event originated at a depth of 50 kilometres, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
No tsunami warning was issued following the earthquake, and there were no immediate reports of damage.
