The Ministry of Culture has launched the PM Mementos e-Auction 2026 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, featuring a collection of 62 cultural artefacts from Odisha. The auction catalogue showcases diverse expressions of Odisha's cultural identity, including representations of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, particularly through a Jagannath Parivar on Chariot piece depicting the deities seated on an intricately detailed chariot drawn by four sculpted horses, representing the cultural and spiritual significance of Rath Yatra.
The collection includes traditional art forms such as Pattachitra paintings depicting Puri Rath Yatra with intricate detailing and vibrant colors, Cuttack silver filigree (Tarakasi) works involving delicate silver wires, and Sambalpuri textiles including Ikat creations. One notable piece is a Maa Samaleswari devotional icon entirely hand-woven using the traditional Bandha technique of Sambalpuri Ikat.
Beyond Jagannath-themed works, the collection captures Odisha's festival traditions through framed prints documenting Panchu Dola Melana showing devotees carrying colorful miniature temple structures, and photographs capturing festivals at Chilika Lake featuring boats carrying village deities. The auction presents a broad visual narrative of Odisha's living cultural heritage including devotional traditions, craftsmanship, painting, textiles, and literary heritage.
