The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP), launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2021, has completed five years, marking significant progress in integrated infrastructure planning and development across India. Developed indigenously by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N) under Atmanirbhar Bharat, the geospatial digital platform integrates over 1,800 data layers covering 58 Central Ministries/Departments and all 36 States/Union Territories, establishing a Whole-of-Government approach for coordinated decision-making and multimodal connectivity.
The Network Planning Group (NPG) evaluated over 400 infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹20.23 lakh crore, focusing on integrated planning, last-mile connectivity to economic and social nodes, intermodal linkages, improved logistics efficiency, and synchronized implementation. PM GatiShakti expanded beyond conventional infrastructure to support social-sector development and district-level planning, addressing local needs such as roads, schools, healthcare facilities, and water pipelines.
Digital tools include the Unified Geospatial Interface (UGI) launched in September 2025 for public access, Knowledge Management System (KMS), Decentralized Data Uploading and Management System (DUMS), and PMGS-NMP Dashboard, facilitating data analytics, knowledge sharing, and infrastructure monitoring. The initiative progressed through phases: in 2022-23, eight key infrastructure Ministries were onboarded and 71 projects evaluated; 2023-24 involved social-sector integration with 1,463 data layers and all States/UTs onboarded; 2024-25 saw economic-sector integration, District Master Plan launch, and 121 projects evaluated; 2025-26 introduced public platforms, KMS, DUMS, Dashboard, and evaluated 352 projects by February 2026; by 2026, total evaluations reached 421 projects worth ₹20.23 lakh crore, with approximately 1,800 data layers, over 65 software modules/tools, and more than 100 mobile and web applications integrated.
The Union Cabinet approved the establishment of the Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority (ITLA) to strengthen research, planning, appraisal, monitoring, and impact assessment in transportation and logistics, aiming to reduce logistics costs and enhance India's global competitiveness. Aligned with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, PM GatiShakti provides a framework for coordinated infrastructure planning, multimodal connectivity, and improved logistics efficiency.
