Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Annpurna Devi marked the 12-year anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, characterizing the scheme's evolution from financial inclusion to economic empowerment. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the program has connected millions of citizens, particularly women and rural families, with the formal banking system, establishing a foundation for financial self-reliance.
The scheme has achieved significant scale with over 59 crore Jan-Dhan accounts opened nationwide. The distribution shows strong inclusion metrics: 56% of accounts belong to women, while 78% are located in villages and small towns, demonstrating deep rural penetration. Deposits in these accounts have surpassed ₹3.1 lakh crore, indicating substantial savings mobilization among previously unbanked populations.
Through the JAM (Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile) trinity infrastructure, ₹53 lakh crore has been transferred directly to beneficiaries, enabling efficient delivery of government benefits and subsidies. The Minister emphasized that the program represents more than just account openings, describing it as a transformative journey that provides dignity, security, and empowerment to millions of Indians.
