The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Department of Pharmaceuticals, reported the operational progress of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) in Bihar for financial year 2025-26. A total of 410 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) were opened in the state, including 3 located in government hospitals and 309 situated in rural areas. These Kendras recorded sales amounting to ₹219.18 crore, resulting in estimated savings of approximately ₹876.72 crore for citizens during the period.
In addition to medicines, the scheme ensured affordable availability of menstrual hygiene products through Jan Aushadhi Suvidha Sanitary Napkins sold at ₹1 per pad. During FY 2025-26, more than 1.17 crore sanitary napkins were sold through Jan Aushadhi Kendras in Bihar.
The scheme implements continuous monitoring of stock availability and corrective measures to minimize shortages and ensure uninterrupted availability of essential medicines across the country, including Bihar. Specific supply chain measures include an incentive program since September 2024 that encourages JAKs to maintain stocks of 200 commonly used medicines (100 top-selling scheme medicines and 100 fast-selling market medicines), with owners eligible for monthly incentives based on maintained stocks.
An end-to-end IT-enabled supply chain system connects five warehouses and 42 distributors across the country. PMBI, the scheme implementing agency, regularly monitors 400 fast-moving products and estimates demand on a continuous basis, with steps taken to digitize the estimation method to augment procurement. Currently, there is no proposal to establish a regional warehouse in Bihar.
