Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in an Indian community reception in Jakarta on July 7, 2026, where he was joined by Indonesian President H.E. Mr. Prabowo Subianto as a special gesture. The event featured a large gathering of members of the Indian diaspora and Indonesian friends of India.
In his address, PM Modi thanked the community for their welcome and expressed gratitude to President Prabowo, whom he described as a great leader and true friend of India. He highlighted the ancient civilizational connections between the two countries, noting traditions such as Bali Yatra and Vesak pilgrimage, as well as modern linkages through Nalanda University.
The Prime Minister emphasized India's economic progress, stating that India has been the world's fastest growing major economy for several years and serves as a key driver of global growth. He noted significant achievements in next-generation infrastructure development, startup revolution, and social development programs that have enabled over 250 million people to move out of poverty.
Modi commended the Indian diaspora in Indonesia, which consists of approximately 150,000 Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and around 15,000 Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), for their contribution to Indonesia's progress and prosperity. He described the community as a living bridge of friendship between the two countries and reiterated India's commitment to further deepen bilateral ties based on mutual trust, shared heritage, and maritime connections.
The Prime Minister called upon the community to contribute toward realizing the shared aspirations of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Indonesia Emas 2045, and stated that India is committed to acting as a force multiplier for bringing progress and prosperity in Indonesia and the ASEAN region.
