Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Paschimbanga Divas celebrations at Tarakeswar, West Bengal, announcing multiple development initiatives and policy implementations. The government inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth hundreds of crores covering rail, road, agriculture, and fisheries sectors, aimed at strengthening Bengal's rural economy and giving new momentum to development.
The 23rd installment of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi was released, transferring nearly ₹19,000 crore directly to the bank accounts of more than 9 crore farmers across the country. For West Bengal specifically, the PM Crop Insurance Scheme was launched to support farmers' families during difficult times and prevent farmers from bearing the burden of crop damage.
Agricultural development initiatives include West Bengal joining the Digital Agriculture Mission through Agri-Stack, which will create a farmer registry, provide digital village maps and crop information, and facilitate services like fertilizer purchase, farmer credit cards, DBT, and procurement at minimum support price. The PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana was launched to uplift the most backward agricultural districts, including Purulia, Darjeeling, Alipurduar, and Jhargram in West Bengal, focusing on increasing productivity, building storage facilities, and making loans easier for farmers.
Fisheries infrastructure received attention with the expansion of Fraserganj Fishing Harbor capacity in South 24 Parganas and the construction of a modern fish market in Birbhum. The government emphasized the "Save the Fields" campaign to protect soil health, reduce chemical fertilizer use, and adopt natural farming practices.
Infrastructure projects mentioned include the completion of halted work on Kolkata Metro's Orange Line at Chingrighata Crossing, foundation laying for a new divisional railway hospital in Howrah at a cost of nearly ₹100 crore providing emergency services and treatment for serious illnesses, and road overbridge projects between Haur and Radhamohanpur in East Medinipur along with the Sankrail–Santragachi link line.
The speech also noted the implementation of previously promised schemes including Ayushman Bharat for poor persons in Bengal, direct benefits from Annapurna Yojana for mothers and sisters, an MoU signed between West Bengal government and central government under Jal Jeevan Mission for clean water access, relaxation of age limits in jobs for youth, and free bus travel for women.
