Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, emphasizing the central role of youth and sports in India's journey towards a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047. He announced the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rojgar Yojana, a scheme worth Rs 1 lakh crore implemented on August 15, 2026, which will provide Rs. 15,000 to every youth securing a job in the private sector and offer incentives to companies generating new employment opportunities, aiming to create approximately 3.5 crore jobs.
Regarding sports, PM Modi highlighted India's improving performance and ambition to host the 2036 Olympics and the 2030 Commonwealth Games. He noted that the Olympics encompass about 40 sports and 325-350 events, with India not participating in nearly two-thirds of these events. To address this, a nationwide talent-hunt campaign will be conducted in villages, cities, and schools to identify sporting talent among children aged 5 to 15 years, with identified children receiving ability assessments and specialized training to develop into athletes.
PM Modi also addressed substance abuse, calling for a collective responsibility towards a 'Nasha Mukt Bharat' to protect the youth. He emphasized that youth are the biggest beneficiaries of a developed India and must be prioritized. Under the Startup India initiative, there are now over 2.5 lakh registered startups, and a ₹1 lakh crore Innovation Fund is available to support young entrepreneurs. Additionally, to alleviate the financial burden of coaching classes, free online coaching will be provided for exam preparation using digital public infrastructure, talent, and teachers to build an extensive network.
