Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the development of Pahadpur village in Mayurbhanj, Odisha as a Solar Village (Surya Gram), where every household will generate solar power. This initiative will provide free solar electricity to residents and allow them to earn income from surplus power generation. The announcement was made during the celebration of the second anniversary of the Odisha government.
The PM inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple development projects worth approximately ₹47,000 crore covering sectors including power, roads, railways, health, and education. These projects are expected to significantly benefit the people of Odisha.
Under the Utkarsh Odisha campaign aimed at attracting investments and establishing new industries, the government has received investment proposals worth nearly ₹20 lakh crore. Several mega projects worth more than ₹3.5 lakh crore are currently underway. Additionally, over ₹6,000 crore is being invested in the power sector to create a favorable environment for industries.
The speech highlighted several welfare initiatives including paddy procurement at ₹3,100 per quintal for farmers, the Subhadra Yojana providing financial assistance to over one crore women, implementation of Ayushman Bharat for nationwide hospital treatment access, and the Madho Singh Haat Kharcha Yojana to prevent tribal students from discontinuing education.
Tribal development programs including the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan and PM Janman Abhiyan were emphasized, along with educational initiatives including nearly 500 Eklavya Model Schools opened nationwide, 750 approved Eklavya schools, scholarships worth hundreds of crores provided to over 1.5 crore tribal children, and approval for a new Navodaya Vidyalaya in Mayurbhanj.
The government also distributed over four crore health cards and provided Ayushman cards to crores of tribal beneficiaries for free treatment, particularly addressing sickle cell anemia. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, clean drinking water is being delivered to every household.
