Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi extended World Environment Day wishes on June 5, 2026, applauding those passionate about environmental conservation and reaffirming India's commitment to protecting the environment and furthering sustainable growth. The Prime Minister highlighted numerous government initiatives over the last decade that have expanded green cover and increased the population of several animal species, noting that India's collective efforts, robust policies, belief in science, and innovation have significantly improved the environment.

India takes pride in its biological diversity, which supports countless species and livelihoods through diverse ecosystems. Notable conservation efforts include species recovery programs for the Great Indian Bustard, snow leopards, sloth bears, and Cheetahs, demonstrating how sustained commitment can help restore wildlife and ecosystems. The 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative has made significant contributions by adding approximately 1.1 lakh hectares of forest every year.

Guided by the principle of 'One Earth, One Family and One Future', India will continue working toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable planet through the spirit of Mission LiFE. The Prime Minister emphasized that environmental conservation is not just a responsibility but an integral part of Indian culture and traditions, sharing a Sanskrit Subhashitam that translates: 'May the air flow pleasantly and beneficially around us, may the rivers provide life-giving and nourishing water, and may herbs and plants bring health and well-being to all living beings.'
