Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat and Maharashtra on 8th September 2026 to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹35,000 crore. In Vadodara at 12 noon, he will dedicate three key sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to the nation, marking the completion of the entire Dedicated Freight Corridor network. The three sections - New Sanand-New Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale-New JNPT - cover 326 route kilometers and were developed at a cost of more than ₹20,700 crore. This connectivity to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority will facilitate faster EXIM cargo movement, strengthen industrial center-port connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and decongest Mumbai's railway network.
The Prime Minister will flag off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon and New JNPT, Mumbai, plus a new passenger train service between Tanda Road and Vadodara (Pratapnagar). He will dedicate the Jobat–Tanda Road new rail line developed under the Chhota Udepur–Dhar project, connecting remote tribal areas of Alirajpur to the national rail network. Three new railway projects spanning 329 kilometers costing over ₹9,700 crore will have their foundation stones laid, including Vadodara-Ratlam third and fourth lines, Miyagam Karjan-Choranda–Malsar gauge conversion, and Vishwamitri-Dabhoi doubling project to enhance passenger and freight capacity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Three National Highway projects costing approximately ₹1,780 crore will also have foundation stones laid, comprising six-laning of Kamrej-Chalthan section of NH-48, construction of additional structures including major bridges over Tapi and Narmada on Vadodara-Surat section of NH-48, and grade-separated structures at Abhava, Mindhola and Khajod junctions on NH-53. Various Gujarat government projects worth around ₹2,600 crore will be inaugurated and have foundation stones laid, including Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road Phase II, 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam, new Vadodara Municipal Corporation office, PMAY housing projects, and water-supply project for 11 eastern Vadodara villages.
In Mumbai at 5:45 PM, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Global Fintech Fest 2026, one of the world's largest annual fintech conferences running from 8th to 11th September. The seventh edition's theme is "Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum - Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance." The event brings together policymakers, regulators, central banks, financial institutions, fintechs, technology companies, investors, and academia to deliberate on shaping finance's future, focusing on how emerging technologies can create trusted, inclusive outcomes globally.
