Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated a new 220-bedded Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital in Surat as part of development projects worth ₹18,800 crore. The hospital, built at a project cost of ₹216 crore on an 8.60-acre campus, will serve approximately 3.20 lakh insured persons and around 12.16 lakh beneficiaries under the ESI scheme in the region.
The multi-specialty hospital is strategically located just 20 minutes from Surat Railway Station and offers comprehensive medical services including General Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Oncology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, ENT, and Dental care. The facility is supported by advanced Radiology and Pathology departments and provides round-the-clock Emergency services.
During the inauguration event held at the hospital venue, construction workers who built the facility were felicitated, and direct disbursement of ESI cash benefits to beneficiaries was conducted, emphasizing the government's commitment to worker dignity and welfare. The event was attended by the Director General of ESIC, key employers, senior officers, and the general public.
This development strengthens Gujarat's ESI healthcare ecosystem, which began in October 1964 and now covers approximately 20.04 lakh insured persons across 34 districts. The Surat Sub-Regional Office network serves workers across Surat, Navsari, and Valsad districts, expanding social security coverage for the organized workforce in the region.
