Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects in West Bengal on June 20, 2026, from Hooghly district. The centerpiece is the release of the 23rd installment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), through which approximately ₹18,880 crore will be transferred via Direct Benefit Transfer to the bank accounts of more than 9.44 crore farmers across India. For West Bengal specifically, over 45.35 lakh beneficiary farmers will receive an installment of approximately ₹907 crore, bringing the total distributed in the state under the scheme since its 2019 launch to over ₹15,055 crore. Nationally, the cumulative distribution will exceed ₹4.46 lakh crore.
In the agricultural sector, the Prime Minister will launch the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and the restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in West Bengal. For the financial year 2026-27, these schemes aim to provide crop insurance security to approximately 1.10 crore farmers covering 30 lakh hectares of agricultural land, bringing crops worth approximately ₹28,140 crore under insurance protection.
Further agricultural initiatives include the launch of an Agritech platform under the Digital Agriculture Mission, designed to be an integrated digital platform for services like fertilizer distribution, Kisan Credit Card, direct benefit transfer, and government procurement based on Minimum Support Price (MSP). The National Mission on Natural Farming will also be launched, with an approved action plan to establish 346 natural farming clusters across 17,300 hectares in the state during FY 2026-27. These clusters are expected to benefit 43,250 farmers with bio-based inputs, training, and better market access. Additionally, the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana will be launched in the districts of Purulia, Darjeeling, Alipurduar, and Jhargram, focusing on increasing productivity, crop diversification, and strengthening post-harvest infrastructure.
In rural development, 49 road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III) with a total cost of over ₹213 crore will be inaugurated. These projects comprise over 315 kilometres of roads aimed at improving rural connectivity. In fisheries, a modernised and expanded fisheries harbour in Fraserganj (South 24 Parganas district) and a modern fisheries market in Birbhum district will be inaugurated to strengthen infrastructure and provide better storage and marketing facilities.
In animal husbandry, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Regional Semen Production Laboratory and Goat Semen Bank established at a cost of over ₹6 crore in Harinaghatta (Nadia district). This facility, the first of its kind in eastern India under the National Livestock Mission, is intended for scientific animal breeding and genetic improvement.
For railway infrastructure, projects totalling approximately ₹591 crore will be inaugurated or have their foundation stones laid. This includes the foundation stone for a new 300-bed divisional railway hospital in Howrah (cost: ₹99 crore), a road over bridge between Howrah and Radhamohanpur in East Medinipur district (cost: ₹71 crore), and the dedication of the Sankrail-Santragachi third line project in Howrah district (cost: ₹421 crore).
