Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan' (Drug-Free Youth for Developed India Resolution Campaign) on August 2, 2026, addressing a nationwide video conference with over one crore young citizens connected from more than 28,000 locations. The campaign represents a national commitment to combat substance abuse among youth, which the Prime Minister identified as essential for achieving India's Viksit Bharat (Developed India) goals by 2047.
The 100-week campaign originated as a pilot project from Kashi the previous year and has now expanded into a national initiative supported by over 125 spiritual organizations and numerous NGOs under the Kashi Declaration. Each Sunday for the next 100 weeks will feature dedicated activities spanning art, culture, sports, and meditation to engage new participants and reinforce the anti-drug message.
PM Modi emphasized that the campaign transcends individual wellness and serves the broader interests of families, society, and the nation. He warned that addiction derails focus and destroys dreams, causing collateral damage to families and weakening national strength. The Prime Minister highlighted available support systems including societal cooperation, yoga, meditation, and modern rehabilitation centers, urging families to prioritize medical intervention over concerns about social prestige.
The government reported unprecedented nationwide crackdowns on drug trafficking, including massive seizures worth thousands of crores and soaring arrest rates targeting drug dealers and smugglers. PM Modi specifically appealed to college and university professors to integrate discussions about drug dangers into their curriculum and launch anti-intoxication movements on campuses. He also called for societal respect and second chances for individuals recovering from addiction, describing them as 'real warriors' whose courage represents their true identity.
