Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35(A) on 5th August 2026, describing the 5th August 2019 event as a defining milestone in India's journey toward inclusive development. The Prime Minister noted that over the past seven years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have witnessed wide-ranging transformation across multiple sectors including significant infrastructure expansion and new opportunities in education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and sports. He emphasized that women and members of marginalized communities, who had been deprived of several constitutional rights for decades, have now been empowered through the full application of the Constitution of India.
The Prime Minister observed that this year's anniversary assumes greater significance as the nation commemorates the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, noting that Dr. Mookerjee's lifelong commitment to national unity continues to inspire generations and that the vision he championed found historic fulfilment on 5th August 2019. The government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, stating that every citizen must have the opportunity to dream big, realize their aspirations, and contribute to the vision of a Viksit Bharat. The message was also shared on social media platform X, where the Prime Minister reiterated these points and used the hashtag #Article370Abrogation.
