Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the NDTV World Summit 2026 in New Delhi, outlining India's economic transformation and global leadership role. The speech emphasized India's evolution from being the 'World's Back Office' to becoming a 'Brain Office' that innovates, designs, and builds original technologies for the global economy.
Economic Achievements and Targets
India has emerged as the fastest-growing major economy amidst severe international headwinds and is driving toward becoming a top-three global economy. The country achieved several historic milestones including crossing 300 gigawatts in Non-fossil Electricity Capacity for the first time, representing a monumental leap in clean energy transition. Goods and products exports surged by 25% in September 2026, while seafood exports have more than doubled over the past 12 years.
Employment and Social Development
Under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana, 70 lakh new jobs have been generated. The government has created over 3.5 crore Lakhpati Didis in villages and is working toward a target of 6 crore Lakhpati Didis. The middle class benefits from zero tax on incomes up to 12 lakh rupees, improving ease of living and creating new employment opportunities.
Technology and Innovation Leadership
India ranks number one in real-time digital payments and third globally in research publications. The country witnessed nearly 1.5 lakh patent filings in 2025 alone. In semiconductor design, India hosts 20% of the global chip-design workforce, with Indian engineers designing cutting-edge 2-to-3 nanometer chips. Students have prepared more than 325 chip designs so far, with comprehensive facilities being provided across academic institutions to expand this talent pool.
Pharmaceutical Self-Reliance
Through Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, the government successfully revived domestic manufacturing of essential antibiotic precursor Penicillin G in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, after a decades-long halt. This is part of a broader strategy to build a complete domestic supply chain for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), which has attracted over ₹5,000 crore in investments across nearly 40 operational projects, reducing historical reliance on imported raw materials.
Global Capability and Economic Vision
India hosts over half of the world's Global Capability Centres, which have pivoted from basic support services to advanced AI, cloud computing, engineering, analytics, and product development. The Prime Minister emphasized that these achievements result from the policy of 'Reform, Perform, and Transform' and represent India's transition from 'Talent at Scale' to 'Thinking at Scale.' The vision of Viksit Bharat is presented as both a domestic promise and a guarantee of a better world, with India increasing its capabilities to strengthen global capabilities.
