Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi released the autobiography of former President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind titled 'Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles' at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on August 12, 2026. The Prime Minister highlighted his deep personal connection with the former President, noting that his prolonged acquaintance with Kovind ji, the guidance received during his presidency, and his special affection have been his greatest assets.
PM Modi described the autobiography as a heritage for Indian democracy and society that will serve as an educational resource for the younger generation. The book details Kovind's personal struggles, including a tragic childhood incident where his mother lost her life in a house fire while trying to save essential household items in Kanpur Dehat. The Prime Minister emphasized how this tragedy forged Kovind's resilience and understanding of societal harmony, with a neighboring mother assisting in his upbringing.
The autobiography traces Kovind's extraordinary ascent from humble beginnings to the highest office in the land through education and hard work, despite lack of resources. PM Modi connected Kovind's journey to the historical visions of Mahatma Gandhi, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Jyotiba Phule, and Savitribai Phule who dreamed of an India where the poorest and most disadvantaged could reach the top positions.
Notably, the Prime Minister highlighted that even after retiring as President, Kovind is working on the 'One Nation, One Election' initiative, which PM Modi stated could start a new chapter in Indian democracy. The book also covers Kovind's political genesis working with Morarji Desai and his dedicated service across various roles in Parliament, as Governor, and as President.
