Update on Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare provided an update on the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP), which was launched to improve access to haemodialysis services by establishing dialysis centres in District Hospitals and other health facilities across the country. The programme provides free dialysis services to eligible patients and is currently implemented in all 36 States/UTs covering 751 districts, including 44 linked districts.
As reported by States/UTs as on 30 June 2026, the programme operates through 1,856 haemodialysis centres equipped with 13,535 haemodialysis machines. The establishment of dialysis centres under PMNDP is based on proposals received from States/UTs in their annual Programme Implementation Plans (PIPs), which are prepared based on gap analysis. These proposals are considered in National Programme Coordination Committee meetings, with approvals conveyed through Records of Proceedings (RoPs).
The Ministry undertakes periodic monitoring through Common Review Mission (CRM) and visits by senior officers. During these reviews, any non-operational dialysis centres are brought to the notice of the concerned State/UT for corrective action. The responsibility for timely operationalization of dialysis centres and deployment of adequately trained manpower, including dialysis technicians, rests with respective State/UT Governments and implementing partners where engaged.
State-wise data shows significant variation in dialysis centre establishment across FY 2024-25 and FY 2025-26. Gujarat leads with 282 centres, followed by Karnataka (214), Maharashtra (158), Tamil Nadu (146), and Kerala (113). Several states showed increases, including Maharashtra (from 65 to 158), Delhi (from 7 to 16), Assam (from 54 to 74), and Jammu & Kashmir (from 23 to 29). Most states/UTs maintained stable numbers, while some smaller regions like A&N Islands, Chandigarh, and Lakshadweep maintained minimal infrastructure.
