PM SVANidhi Scheme Achievements and Socio-Economic Impact
The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs provided an update on the Prime Minister Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme, launched on 1st June 2020 to facilitate collateral-free working capital term loans to urban street vendors. As of 12th July 2026, the scheme has achieved significant scale with 76.95 lakh street vendors availing more than 1.15 crore collateral-free loans amounting to ₹18,475 crore since inception.
The scheme's impact has been assessed through two studies conducted by the Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad. The 2023 study, conducted in 100 Urban Local Bodies covering over 5,000 beneficiaries, found that PM SVANidhi was the first bank loan for 95% of beneficiaries, with loans primarily utilized for business expansion. The 2025 study, conducted in 99 ULBs covering over 5,000 beneficiaries (with 60% overlap from the 2023 sample), revealed that average annualized business income among borrowers grew by approximately 20% between 2023 and 2025.
Approximately 30% of borrowers across all cycles reported holding loans beyond PM SVANidhi, indicating the scheme's success in building credit histories for previously unbanked vendors. The study also documented significant growth in digital payment adoption among street vendors between 2023 and 2025.
The scheme's impact extends beyond business recovery to broader socio-economic benefits. By easing credit constraints and stabilizing household cash flows, the scheme has enabled vendor families to improve living conditions, strengthen food security, enhance healthcare access, and support children's education.
Under the scheme's structure, repayment enables vendors to graduate to higher loan tranches. As of 12th July 2026, 29.71 lakh vendors have availed the second loan tranche, while 8.49 lakh vendors have availed the third loan tranche, demonstrating improved financial growth.
The scheme includes digital adoption incentives, providing cashback of up to ₹100 per month for 12 months (maximum ₹1,200/year) for each loan tranche. The restructured scheme also provides cashback of maximum ₹100 per quarter for 4 quarters for digital transactions on wholesale purchases of at least ₹2,000. Since inception until May 2026, over 875 crore digital transactions have been conducted, with ₹412 crore released as cashback incentives to beneficiaries.
The 'SVANidhi se Samriddhi' component, launched on 4 January 2021, builds a social safety net by facilitating linkages to eight Central Government welfare schemes: Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Registration under BOCW Act, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana, NFSA portability benefit (ONORC), Pradhan Mantri Janani Suraksha Yojana, and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. As of 12th July 2026, socio-economic profiling is completed for 50.63 lakh PM SVANidhi beneficiaries, with 1.56 crore scheme sanctions extended to them.
