The PM Vishwakarma scheme has achieved its registration target of 30 lakh beneficiaries as it approaches its three-year anniversary on September 17, 2026. This Central Sector Scheme with an outlay of ₹13,000 crore for FY2023-24 to FY2027-28 provides end-to-end support to traditional artisans and craftspeople across 18 specified trades including carpenters, metalsmiths, goldsmiths, potters, cobblers, tailors, and others working in the unorganised sector.
The scheme framework is built around three pillars of Samman (respect), Samarthya (capability), and Samriddhi (prosperity) and includes multiple components: recognition through PM Vishwakarma Certificate and ID Card, skill upgradation training with ₹500 per day stipend, modern toolkits up to ₹15,000, collateral-free enterprise development loans up to ₹3 lakh at concessional 5% interest rate with government interest subvention, digital transaction incentives of ₹1 per transaction up to 100 transactions monthly, and comprehensive marketing support.
As of September 15, 2026, the scheme has delivered significant outcomes: over 24.37 lakh artisans received basic skill training, more than 18.16 lakh received toolkits, and over 6.19 lakh loans worth approximately ₹5,316 crore have been sanctioned. Digital incentives have been provided to over 8.11 lakh beneficiaries with more than ₹42 crore disbursed, and more than 12,000 artisans have been trained in AI tools for branding and marketing.
Market access initiatives include onboarding of over 30,000 beneficiaries on e-commerce platforms including Government e-Marketplace, ONDC, Meesho, Amazon, and Fabindia. The first PM Vishwakarma National Exhibition cum Trade Fair held from January 17-31, 2026, at Dilli Haat featured 117 artisans who achieved record sales exceeding ₹2 crore with over 60,000 visitors. The scheme also utilizes the One Station One Product initiative for Divyangjan artisans, with 42 beneficiaries facilitated across 14 States/UTs, and has established stalls at airports including Bhopal and Chandigarh through collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation's AVSAR scheme.
A concurrent evaluation by IIM Mumbai covering 11,591 beneficiaries across all States and Union Territories found that 93% of surveyed beneficiaries reported moderate to significant increase in income following training. The evaluation also included feedback from banks, Common Service Centres, India Post personnel, and training centres, indicating tangible economic gains for participants.
