PM-YASASVI Educational Empowerment Scheme Performance
The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has reported comprehensive financial and beneficiary data for the PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India (PM-YASASVI) from 2014-15 to 2025-26. The scheme aims to strengthen educational opportunities for students belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Economically Backward Classes (EBCs), and Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNTs) through multiple components including scholarships, hostel infrastructure, and top-class education support.
Union Minister Dr Virendra Kumar stated that the total financial assistance released under various components of PM-YASASVI amounted to ₹15,555.53 crore over the 12-year period, with overall support extending to more than 1069 lakh beneficiaries across India. The scheme seeks to promote educational continuity, reduce dropout rates, and facilitate access to quality education through targeted interventions.
Component-wise Financial Allocation and Beneficiary Coverage
The Pre-Matric Scholarship component received ₹2,163.15 crore from 2014-15 to 2025-26, covering 642.58 lakh beneficiaries. In 2025-26 alone, ₹252.21 crore was released provisionally covering 25.22 lakh students, though actual data is still being compiled by States and Union Territories.
The Post-Matric Scholarship component, which supports higher education, received the largest allocation of ₹12,118.75 crore between 2014-15 and 2025-26, benefiting 425.66 lakh students. For 2025-26, fund release stood at ₹1,138.88 crore with provisional coverage of 31.29 lakh beneficiaries.
The hostel construction component for OBC boys and girls received ₹346.79 crore from 2014-15 to 2025-26, creating 28,865 hostel seats. In 2025-26 alone, ₹21.06 crore was released for the creation of 3,700 seats, addressing accommodation barriers for disadvantaged students.
The Top Class Education in Schools component, implemented from 2022-23, has released ₹116.69 crore benefiting 45,228 students. Coverage increased substantially from 1,275 beneficiaries in 2022-23 to 27,007 beneficiaries in 2025-26, with ₹75.63 crore released in the most recent year.
The Top Class Education in Colleges component, operational from 2023-24, released ₹810.15 crore from 2023-24 to 2025-26, benefiting 37,937 students. In 2025-26, the component supported 17,295 students through a fund release of ₹368.86 crore for premier colleges and institutions.
