The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment published a success story highlighting the impact of the PM-YASASVI Scholarship Scheme in empowering students from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. The document features Bishwajit Mondal, a 28-year-old OBC student from a rural, tribal-dominated region of Jharkhand, who became the first person from his community to secure admission to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur for the 2024–26 Post Graduate Programme (PGP).
The scholarship provided financial assistance covering the full tuition fee of approximately ₹18 lakh for his MBA program, which removed significant financial constraints that would have otherwise prevented him from pursuing quality higher education. This support enabled Mondal to focus entirely on academics, participate in leadership initiatives, skill development programs, and professional networking opportunities at IIM Raipur, significantly enhancing his career prospects and managerial capabilities.
The Ministry emphasizes that the PM-YASASVI Scholarship Scheme is designed to expand access to quality higher education for students from Other Backward Classes by removing financial barriers. The program aims to create role models who can inspire other students from rural and marginalized communities to pursue higher education, thereby promoting inclusive development and contributing to the nation's social and economic progress.
