Union Minister of Women and Child Development Smt. Annpurna Devi announced via a social media post that the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) has transformed homeownership into a reality for crores of Indian families over the past 12 years. The Minister highlighted that a significant 74% of the houses provided under the scheme are owned either solely by women or under joint ownership. This high rate of female ownership is presented as a core achievement of the scheme, instilling in women beneficiaries a renewed sense of security, dignity, and self-reliance. Smt. Annpurna Devi characterized the program as not merely a housing initiative but the realization of a resolve for women's empowerment and Antyodaya (upliftment of the last person).
