PMAY-U Achieves 1.25 Crore Houses Sanctioned with 1 Crore Delivered
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) has achieved a significant milestone with over 1.25 crore houses sanctioned under both PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0, of which more than 1 crore houses have been completed and delivered to beneficiaries across the country. The government continues to accelerate implementation of PMAY-U 2.0 to expand access to affordable housing for eligible urban families.
8th CSMC Meeting Approves 2.09 Lakh New Houses
The 8th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) under PMAY-U 2.0 was held on 6th August 2026 at Sankalp Bhawan in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Shri Satendra Singh, Secretary, Department of Urban Development, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The meeting approved 2.09 lakh houses for EWS families across 16 states/UTs: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Breakdown by Vertical and Financial Assistance
Of the newly sanctioned houses, approximately 1.42 lakh houses were approved under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) vertical, which provides financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh to beneficiaries for constructing pucca houses on their own land. Another 67,045 houses were sanctioned under the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) vertical, where affordable housing projects are developed by public/private agencies in partnership with States/UTs, with eligible EWS beneficiaries receiving Central Assistance.
Cumulative PMAY-U 2.0 Progress
With these latest approvals, the total number of houses sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 has reached 18.38 lakh, comprising 14.40 lakh BLC houses, 2.48 lakh AHP houses, 1.36 lakh houses allotted to Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS) vertical beneficiaries, and 13,046 sanctioned as Affordable Rental Housing (ARH).
Focus on Women Empowerment and Social Inclusion
The scheme demonstrates strong emphasis on women's empowerment, with 1 crore houses out of the total 1.25 crore sanctioned houses allotted to women (either in the name of female head of household or joint ownership). In the 8th CSMC meeting alone, 2.03 lakh out of the 2.09 lakh newly sanctioned houses were allotted to women. The scheme also allocated 16,662 houses to senior citizens and provided houses to various social categories: 21,954 for SC beneficiaries, 14,252 for ST beneficiaries, and 75,511 for OBC beneficiaries.
Implementation Review and Monitoring
Secretary MoHUA conducted a comprehensive review of the scheme's progress, assessing implementation pace across States/UTs, timely grounding and completion of sanctioned houses, geo-tagging, fund utilisation, beneficiary verification, and occupancy status. Emphasis was placed on expeditious implementation, timely release of funds, effective monitoring, and close coordination among all stakeholders to ensure benefits reach every eligible urban family.
Scheme Objectives and Target Beneficiaries
PMAY-U 2.0 aims to address housing needs of an additional 1 crore eligible EWS/LIG/MIG families in urban India with annual income up to ₹9 lakh. The scheme fosters social inclusion, improved living conditions, and enhanced economic security while specifically addressing housing needs of vulnerable groups including SC/ST/OBC communities, minorities, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, transgenders, and other underprivileged groups.
