Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme Achievements

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has reported significant achievements under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), a flagship scheme implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The programme plays a crucial role in promoting self-employment by enabling the establishment of new micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector, with particular focus on rural and semi-urban areas.

Since FY 2014-15, the scheme has assisted approximately 8.12 lakh micro entrepreneurs with Margin Money subsidy totaling ₹24,398.61 crore. This financial assistance has generated sustainable employment opportunities for approximately 73.08 lakh persons across India. The scheme provides financial assistance in the form of Margin Money subsidy on bank-sanctioned loans, offering crucial support for enterprise creation.

Success Stories Demonstrating Transformational Impact

The document highlights two notable success stories that exemplify the programme's impact. Skinkaanti Ayurveda, founded by Pooja Sharma in Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh, began as a micro-enterprise with a project cost of ₹25 lakh supported by State Bank of India. The enterprise has grown into India's largest handmade soap manufacturing unit with an annual turnover of ₹30 crore and employs 300 individuals, 95% of whom are women. The company blends Ayurvedic principles with modern scientific techniques and has achieved technological breakthroughs in manufacturing efficiency and cost reduction.

M/s Ess Pee Quality Products, established by Surender Pal Singh Nagi in Mohali, Punjab, started with an initial project cost of ₹21 lakh financed by Bank of Baroda. The food processing enterprise has grown to achieve a turnover of ₹38 crore and employs approximately 130 individuals. The company manufactures honey, cookies, and fruit jams, and exports to 26 countries including the USA, Australia, and France. It has achieved AA+ BRCGS certification, demonstrating adherence to global quality and safety standards.

These success stories demonstrate PMEGP's transformative impact in fostering entrepreneurship, promoting scaling up of micro-enterprises, and driving employment generation and inclusive growth across the country.
