PMKSY Scheme Progress Update as of June 2026
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has provided a comprehensive update on the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), a central sector umbrella scheme implemented since 2017-18. The scheme aims to develop integrated food processing and preservation infrastructure across the value chain from farm gate to retail, promote value addition, reduce post-harvest losses, and enhance farmers' income through improved market linkages.
As of 30 June 2026, the scheme has achieved significant milestones with 1,735 projects approved nationwide, of which 1,256 projects are operational. These projects have created a processing and preservation capacity of 294.21 lakh metric tons per annum and have benefited approximately 37.76 lakh farmers. The total project cost across all components amounts to ₹33,163.34 crores, with approved grants-in-aid of ₹9,258.58 crores and released grants of ₹6,914.93 crores.
Component-wise Performance Breakdown
The scheme comprises eight component programs with varying levels of implementation: Scheme for Creation of Infrastructure for Agro Processing Clusters (APC) has 73 approved projects with 25 operational; Scheme for Creation of Backward & Forward Linkages (CBFL) has 60 approved with 53 operational; Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure (CC) leads with 409 approved and 311 operational projects; Creation/Expansion of Food Processing & Preservation Capacities (CEFPPC) has 630 approved with 388 operational; Food Safety and Quality Assurance infrastructure (FTL) has 203 approved with 177 operational; Mega Food Parks (MFP) has 41 approved with 25 operational; Operation Greens (OG) has 36 approved with 25 operational; and Human Resource and Institution schemes have 283 approved with 252 operational projects.
State-wise Implementation Details
Over the last three years, 362 projects have been approved across states with 69 projects completed/operational. Maharashtra leads with 42 approved projects leveraging ₹664.96 crores investment and generating 34,315 employment opportunities. Tamil Nadu follows with 41 approved projects (₹616.92 crores investment, 34,417 jobs), while Gujarat has 26 approved projects (₹446.46 crores investment, 21,188 jobs). Other significant states include Karnataka (24 projects, ₹438.59 crores, 20,650 jobs), Telangana (28 projects, ₹500.92 crores, 13,625 jobs), and Andhra Pradesh (18 projects, ₹264.11 crores, 17,265 jobs). The total investment leveraged across states stands at ₹5,443.67 crores with 243,772 employment opportunities generated.
Special Provisions for Farmer Producer Organizations
The scheme provides enhanced financial assistance to Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) with reduced net-worth requirements compared to general category applicants. Under the centrally sponsored PMFME scheme, FPOs are eligible for 35% credit-linked subsidy up to ₹10 lakh for setting up or upgrading micro-food processing enterprises, 35% grant of up to ₹3 crore for establishing Common Infrastructure, and branding & marketing support of up to 50% grant for groups of FPOs at state/regional level.
Scheme Objectives and Impact
PMKSY is a demand-driven scheme that promotes private investment in the food processing sector, strengthens food safety and quality assurance infrastructure, and enhances export competitiveness of processed food products. The creation of modern food processing infrastructure has improved supply chain efficiency, reduced post-harvest losses, and contributed to the growth of the food processing sector and exports of processed food products. Applications are invited through Expressions of Interest (EoIs) from eligible applicants across India, including aspirational and agricultural regions, with proposals evaluated on merit subject to fund availability.
