The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship provided an update on the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 scheme in response to a Lok Sabha query. Under PMKVY 4.0, training has been standardized through the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) with courses aligned to industry needs and national priorities, particularly focusing on new-age and futuristic job roles including AI, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Semiconductor, Drone technology, Solar, and 3D Printing. The scheme has introduced 600+ new-age courses, and as of June 30, 2026, approximately 5.44 lakh candidates have been trained/oriented in these futuristic roles nationwide.
PMKVY is a demand-driven scheme without state-wise fund allocation. However, ₹2,392.37 crore has been released for implementation over the last three years (FY2022-23 to FY2025-26) and the current year (FY2026-27). The scheme emphasizes inclusivity for women, Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and other marginalized communities through Special Projects targeting underrepresented social groups and geographic areas such as Aspirational Districts and Tribal districts.
To improve accessibility, the scheme provides boarding & lodging and transportation facilities per Common Norms. For non-residential training, conveyance/transportation costs are covered for women and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). Additionally, PwD candidates receive ₹5,000 for assistive devices, aids, and appliances. All candidates are covered under one-year accidental insurance for social protection.
State/UT-wise training data for the last five years and current year shows significant variation across regions. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of trainees in FY24-25 at 4.63 lakh, followed by Rajasthan (2.80 lakh) and Madhya Pradesh (2.59 lakh). Total trainees peaked in FY24-25 at 20.38 lakh across all states/UTs, while the current year (FY26-27) has seen 85,754 trainees so far. Tamil Nadu specifically trained 29,057 in FY21-22, 8,029 in FY22-23, 34,533 in FY23-24, 85,689 in FY24-25, 10,786 in FY25-26, and 3,640 in FY26-27.
