The President of India has approved the appointment of five new judges to the Supreme Court of India through notifications dated June 1, 2026. The appointments were made in exercise of powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India. The new judges are Shri Justice Sheel Nagu (Chief Justice, High Court of Punjab and Haryana), Shri Justice Shree Chandrashekhar (Chief Justice, High Court of Bombay), Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva (Chief Justice, High Court of Madhya Pradesh), Shri Justice Arun Palli (Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh), and Smt. Venkita Subramani Mohana (Senior advocate). The appointments take effect from the date each appointee assumes charge of their office. The announcement was made by Jagannath Srinivasan, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, through a Press Information Bureau release.
