President Droupadi Murmu addressed members of the Indian community and 'Friends of India' in Bucharest on July 25, 2026, during the concluding day of her state visit to Romania. The event was hosted by the Ambassador of India to Romania and was attended by Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, along with Members of Parliament Dr. Dinesh Sharma and Shri Vijay Baghel.
President Murmu emphasized that the Indian diaspora in Romania remains deeply connected to their motherland despite geographical distance, noting that their achievements and love for India make every Indian proud. She highlighted the significant contributions of Indian companies and professionals to Romania's development while simultaneously creating new opportunities for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The President identified the close bond between the peoples of India and Romania as the strongest pillar of their bilateral relations. She observed that the Indian diaspora remains united in preserving India's rich cultural heritage in Romania, with a new generation of Indian IT engineers, scholars, researchers, healthcare professionals, and students now making Romania their home.
Murmu acknowledged the Indian community's contribution to Romania's economy and society and their efforts to promote Indian culture and values, describing them as true representatives of India. She expressed appreciation to the Romanian government and people for welcoming the Indian community and ensuring their safety.
The President outlined India's vision of 'Viksit Bharat 2047' aimed at building a prosperous, modern, self-reliant, and inclusive India. She urged the Indian community in Romania to continue being active partners in India's developmental journey, emphasizing that their experience, expertise, and achievements would contribute to the nation's progress.
President Murmu also acknowledged the Romanian 'Friends of India' present at the reception, noting that their love for Indian art and culture, along with spiritual connections with India, form an important bridge bringing the two peoples together. She recognized their continued support in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Romania.
