President of India Droupadi Murmu celebrated Raksha Bandhan with students from schools across the country at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 28, 2026. During the event, the President urged students to extend the core values of Rakshabandhan—love, care, and protection—to the environment, specifically suggesting they tie rakhis on plants and trees to help preserve ecological balance. She emphasized that students as the future of the country should make a lifelong commitment to planting and nurturing trees.
The celebration involved 122 participants, including 89 students and 32 teachers drawn from 17 states, one Union Territory, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). Among the participants were 13 Children with Special Needs (CwSN).
As part of their educational visit to the national capital, the students visited Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya on August 27, 2026. Following the Raksha Bandhan program, they participated in a guided tour of Rashtrapati Bhavan and Amrit Udyan. Their itinerary also included visiting "The Light and the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One" exhibition at the Raipithora Cultural Complex to view sacred Buddha relics, and planned visits to the National Science Centre, National War Memorial, and India Gate on August 29, 2026.
