President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Skopje, North Macedonia on July 20, 2026, marking the first visit by an Indian President to the country as part of her state visits to Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania. She was received by Timcho Mucunski, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade of North Macedonia, and was accompanied by Indian Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, along with Members of Parliament Dr. Dinesh Sharma and Vijay Baghel.
On July 21, 2026, President Murmu met with North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova at Villa Vodno, where she received a ceremonial welcome and guard of honor. The leaders held one-to-one meetings and delegation-level talks covering the full range of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, reaffirming deep bilateral ties grounded in shared democratic values.
President Murmu emphasized that economic cooperation is an extremely important pillar of the India-North Macedonia relationship, specifically highlighting cooperation potential in IT/ITES, agriculture, food processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, bio-tech, tourism, hospitality, and film-making sectors. She noted that cultural and people-to-people ties have always been among the strongest pillars of the bilateral relationship, with collaboration in creative industries being an important aspect of cultural exchanges.
The President announced India's decision to double the number of Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) training slots for North Macedonia, including courses in Artificial Intelligence. She welcomed North Macedonia's intent to join international initiatives including the International Solar Alliance (ISA), Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), and Global Biofuels Alliance, noting that participation would enable North Macedonia to draw on global best practices and technical expertise for renewable energy and disaster resilience promotion.
Both leaders agreed that this visit would further consolidate the multifaceted partnership between India and North Macedonia and take it to new heights in the years ahead.
