Capital Markets and Flows

The Reserve Bank of India conducted an underwriting auction on 28 August 2026 for the 6.94 % Government Security maturing in 2036 (GS 2036). The notified amount for the issue was ₹34,000 crore. The Minimum Underwriting Commitment (MUC) required from primary dealers was set at ₹17,010 crore, and an Additional Competitive Underwriting (ACU) amount of ₹16,990 crore was accepted, bringing the total amount underwritten to the full ₹34,000 crore.

Regulatory and Policy Measures

The RBI fixed the cut‑off rate for the underwriting commission payable to primary dealers at 0.39 paise per ₹100 of the security value. The auction for the sale of the security is scheduled to be held on the same day, 28 August 2026, as indicated in the press release.

The result demonstrates the RBI’s use of competitive underwriting mechanisms to facilitate government borrowing while managing market liquidity and ensuring fair compensation to primary dealers.
