Policy rates and liquidity

The RBI, after reviewing current and evolving liquidity conditions, has decided to conduct a second Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) auction on Friday, 9 October 2026. The auction will make available a notified amount of ₹1,50,000 crore for a tenor of three days. The reverse repo window is scheduled from 11:00 am to 11:30 am on the auction day. The reversal of the repo will be effected on Monday, 12 October 2026.

Regulatory and policy measures

The operational guidelines governing the VRRR auction will continue to follow those outlined in the RBI’s press release dated 13 February 2020 (Press Release 2019‑2020/1947). No changes to the auction framework have been announced. The communication is issued by Deputy General Manager Ajit Prasad, Communications, of the RBI.

The RBI’s decision to deploy a sizable ₹1.5 lakh crore reverse repo operation underscores its ongoing focus on managing short‑term liquidity in the banking system, while maintaining the existing procedural framework.
